June Youth Initiative - Carrying out the Practices

22 to 24 June, 6 dedicated youth came together to practice the deepening themes from Ruhi Book 2 on the Eternal Covenant and the Life of Baha'u'llah and to share these with new believers and seekers. This project was called “the June Youth Initiative” sponsored by the Regional Training Institute.

On Friday, the youth had dinner and some time to socialize. Then the program started with prayers organized by Bauback Reihani. Then Quddus and Ehsan shared the vision of the project and the importance of carrying out the practices from each of the Ruhi Books. With the aid of Samarih and Jessi Zencker this initiative was headed for success!

On Saturday, the youth practiced all day in pairs learning about the “Eternal Covenant” and “the Life of Baha'u'llah.” One way was to say it over and over in their own words with each other. Then, they practiced saying it in the whole group.

Raymond Waits came and inspired us with encouraging words and a video on what is happening in the Austin Cluster in regards to the four core activities!

On Sunday, the big day came, where the youth at the Missouri City Baha’i Center practiced on one new believer, a family, and one individual before going to their home visit.

After lunch, Jessi Zenker brought her arts and crafts so the youth could make gift (card with Prayer and Writings) for the families they were visiting. Once completed, prayers were said and words of encouragement were expressed amongst each other before leaving.

All 3 groups reported that the families were eager to see them again and thanked them for sharing the importance of the Eternal Covenant and the life of Baha’u’llah.

Here are a few quotes of some of the youth:

"Going into the home visit, I was nervous and afraid of messing up. However, things just eased as I began speaking about what I knew. Practicing with the other youths helped me learn a lot more detail and helped me become comfortable in sharing it with both Baha'is and non-Baha'is. I truly enjoyed learning about the seeker and just enjoyed listening to her experiences..." Seena

"...Using the materials and learning from all the other youths helped me to improve. I felt so much more comfortable with more Baha'is around. The seeker was very loving and listened to our presentations with a sincere heart. We gave her the cards with prayers on them and she loved them. I hope to be able to visit her again and even more seekers." Gloria

“I had a great time at the home visit. The people were pleasant. We talked on a variety of subjects. They were welcoming and asked to see us again..." Nabil

“I enjoyed the home visit and it really helped me with overcoming my fear of being nervous. The mother and son were very nice and they asked many questions." Badi

A special thanks to the Reihani and Nasseri family in Missouri City for all their help with a place to sleep and practice the depening themes!
